Using black and white photography and image manipulation techniques, the artist creates a mesmerizing collection of images that capture the essence of the dream state. Blurred, grainy, and full of noise, the images draw the viewer into a world of mystery and intrigue, where the line between reality and fantasy is blurred.
Inspired by Freud’s psychoanalytic theory and the emergence of Surrealism, the artist uses his camera as a tool to express his deepest emotions, memories, desires, and thoughts. The resulting images are raw and unrefined, yet carefully sequenced to create a poetic and immersive experience. Each image is a doorway into a different realm, inviting the viewer to explore their own subconscious thoughts and feelings.
Dream State is dark and mystical. The poetic sequencing of its raw and unrefined images makes you want to look at the back again and again, and every time you look, you will discover something missed the first time. Just like Messinis’s poems, the book creates a sense of surrealism, and his ambition to draw the viewer into his own poetic consciousness is beguiling and compelling.
